Obama seems to be growing in the office, now if we can get the democrat leadership admit what they knew and when.

Yes, it is. I'm an Obama supporter, and am dismayed by some of his recent decisions.
I do not call it flip flopping,I call it, putting your application in for a brain surgeon with only a high school education.He is finally finding out the job requires more knowledge and experience then he has for the job,and he knows there is no way he can keep all of his campagin promies.
Obama is immediately changing the rules that govern the GITMO trials in ways consistent with his past criticism of the Bush system.


The changes in the rules are as follows:





_Restrictions on hearsay evidence that can be used in court against the detainees.





_A ban on all evidence obtained through cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. This would include statements given from detainees who were subjected to waterboarding, a form of simulated drowning.





_Giving detainees greater leeway in choosing their own military counsel.





_Protecting detainees who refuse to testify from legal sanctions or other court prejudices.





So no, he's not going against his campaign promise at all.

I see no problem with improving the system and ACTUALLY holding trials. Bush did neither.

Well, few people know that your president is making Executive orders. Executive orders do not come under the control of either the congress or the senate. One was the order to grant 20.4 million $ to Hamas to come live in the U.S. These E O's are not publicized by the anti democracy media. Obama is simply learning that it is one thing to talk a good game and another to play one. He is getting a good dose of reality these days.
I think 10-20 out of 500 will get these. I hardly call that a 'flip-flop'. But, since the cases were ruined, there is only so much you can do.





These tribunals will still disallow testimony based on torture, and you will be able to face your accuser and so on. They are similiar to federal courts, but not the same.





I would obviously prefer he prosecute them all in regular courts/





This has nothing to do with shutting down Gitmo.

Obama pandered to the public in order to get elected and made many promises that he did not intend to keep. I don't like Obama but he is not totally stupid. There are things that a president has to do and he will do them.
I knew as soon as he got into office his eyes would open up. There is so much out there for the president to side with that people campaigning don't realize. Obama promised a lot, and when he got into office he learned the cold hard truth.
